Evan Harris publishes detailed expenses summaries, including second home allowance claims for 2008/9.
In the interests of transparency, Evan has published a breakdown of his second home allowance claims by year, for the four years that will only be published by the House of Commons later next month (2004/5 - 2007/8), as well as for the last year (2008/9) which will not be published by the House for several months.
His 2008/9 breakdown shows interest-only mortgage payments of £10,000, utility bills of £1,200, Council Tax bill of £957, a service charge of £2080, and repairs (boiler) of £645. There were no food claims, no cleaning claims, no furniture claims and no refurbishment claims. The total came to £15,256.13 which is likely to be significantly lower than most MPs who claim the allowance.
Dr Harris said, "Until the Kelly Committee reports, the House has proposed to streamline and reduce claims for the second home allowance, permitting claims only for mortgage interest, utilities, Council Tax, service charges, repairs and food. My claims for last year are already well within these limits, and indeed do not include any claim for food."
