Oxford West and Abingdon (OXWAB) is one of 6 parliamentary constituencies in Oxfordshire. The others are Oxford East, Banbury, Witney, Wantage and Henley.
OXWAB stretches along the A34 from Kidlington in the north to Abingdon in the South. In Oxford it includes north and west Oxford and includes the parishes as far west as Appleton and Besselsleigh. The result is a constituency with a wide mix of student, city, town and villages.
The constituency includes parts of 3 different District Councils: around half of the Vale of White Horse District, a fifth of Oxford City and the south western part of Cherwell District. This means that there are council elections every year somewhere in the constituency.
OXWAB constituency was held by the Liberal Democrats from 1997 until 2010. The Conservatives won by a very narrow margin of just 176 votes in 2010.
The Liberal Democrats are the official opposition on the Vale of White District Council and hold 14 of the 24 seats within the constituency. We are the main opposition on Oxford City Council holding 8 of the 10 seats in the constituency. On Cherwell there are 3 Liberal Democrat councillors, all in the constituency.
The Liberal Democrats also have a majority on Kidlington Parish Council and are the official opposition on Abingdon Town Council holding 9 of the 21 seats.
There are 9 County Council Electoral Divisions within OXWAB, electing 13 councillors. The Liberal Democrats hold 4 seats.
