The independent scrutineer of MPs expenses has been examining all MPs claims dating back to 2004. Tue 1st Dec 2009: An apple a day keeps the runway away. Dr Evan Harris, Member of Parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon joined with local members of Greenpeace on Saturday to protest against the proposed 3rd runway at Heathrow. Dr Harris helped plant an apple tree at Wolvercote, which is twinned with another tree in Sipson, a village that will be destroyed if the 3rd runway goes ahead. Commenting on the news that science writer Simon Singh has been given leave to appeal in his libel case where he is being sued by the British Chiropractic Association, which has kept his campaign alive, Dr Evan Harris MP said: MP questions City Council on "Crazy Northern Development Plan". Yesterday Dr Evan Harris strongly questioned a court order which could have gagged the Guardian newspaper from reporting Parliamentary business. Tue 13th Oct 2009: I can confirm that I have received a letter from Sir Thomas Legg. As I have never claimed for gardening and only modest cleaning bills for my small one bedroom Westminster flat I am not caught by the new limits on such claims. However, he has requested clarification on several other points which I am currently reviewing the paperwork for. I am perfectly happy to supply that to him as soon as possible. I will provide a full update my website when I have provided the answers. Fri 19th Jun 2009: Dr Evan Harris Leads by Example on Expenses. Dr Harris strongly supports reforms to the expenses system so that it may regain public trust and confidence. In choosing to lead by example, Evan has decided that in future he will claim for only very basic costs incurred for his one bedroom flat in London.
