Elections and By-elections in OxWABForthcoming ElectionsA general election will happen on May 6th. Dr Evan Harris is standing for re-election for Oxford West and Abingdon. To help re-elect Evan Harris for Oxford West and Abingdon, click here. There will also be elections in Oxford City and Kidlington on 6th May. Details of candidates and the manifesto will be put up here shortly. There are no local elections in the Vale area. Previous ElectionsOxfordshire County CouncilOxfordshire County Council is re-elected every four years with by-elections being called when councillors leave their post. The last election was 4th June 2009. There are 74 county councillors representing 57 divisions. 10 Liberal Democrats were elected (four of them from Oxford West & Abingdon). The Liberal Democrats form the opposition. European ParliamentThere were also elections ot the Parliament Parliament on 4th June. Oxfordshire is in the South East region which elections 10 MEPs. Members of the European Parliament (MEP) are elected every five years. The South East elected 2 Liberal Democrat MEPs out of the 10 (the others are 4 Conservatives, 2 UKIP, 1 Labour and I Green). City and District CouncilsThe Districts Councils in Oxfordshire have different re-election schedules. Oxford City re-elects half its councillors every two years. Each City ward has two councillors and each councillor serves a four year term. The next elections are on 6th May 2010 - see above. Vale of the White Horse District re-elects all councillors every four years. The last election was in May 2007 and the next elections will be in 2011. Cherwell District Council (for Kidlington) re-elects one third of its councillors every year for three years and then has a year long break when the county elections take place. Each councillors serves for four years. The next elections in Kidlington are on 6th May 2010 - see above. By-electionsBy-elections are called when a sitting councillor leaves or dies.
